Possible art commissions

I’m aiming to have Dwarf-Land finished by spring/summer 2013, but I’m obviously a flake so we’ll see.  In the meantime, I’m assembling a list of small illustrations that could enhance the thing.  Most likely thumbnails, maybe the size of Fiend Folio illustrations at the largest.  Maybe a dozen or so.

I’d like to get in small portrait-style illustrations of a few of the more important NPCs – King Flim, Queen Aurtne, Granny Grimtits, Childe Alliefric, and several for whom I haven’t posted any details yet, e.g., Black Prince Xerxy, Cacogenia the Gorgon, the Courtly Ghouls, the Wight Wizard, etc.

If you’ve seen the early draft manuscript in March, or have read some of the stuff on the blog, please let me know anything else you’d like to see a picture of, whether it’s something general like “monster entries” or slightly more specific like “Gnome Warlock with pitchfork and rat teeth.”

Thanks for your assistance.

Apart from some monsters and NPCs, a picture or two of typical PCs, perhaps a party, would be cool.

  2. Stephan says:

Whatever you do, don’t hire that pog-guy. I hear he draws penises and shitting orifices on everything. A real low-life scum bag.

    • Mike Monaco says:

I dunno, a good “mushroom landscape with deros crapping on dwarfs” for the cover would help set the tone. There are Shaver deros in dwarfland, aren’t there?
If not, no way I’m contributing to the Kickstarter campaign.
      ;)

  3. Scott says:

No DERO, that was more of a Thool thing.

  4. migellito says:

I’m always interested to see the societal monsters like goblins and bugbears, as well.

  5. Cole says:

    The pagodas.

  6. Aaron Funk says:

Is there still going to be that dungeon you get to by not sleeping long enough in the final cut? If so, a picture of a strung-out dwarf opening a trap door in their bedroom might be thematically cool.

I am not a professional artist at all, but I have been following your Dwarf-Land project for a while and it is one of my favorite OSR works I’ve seen.

So I will (once our finals here end) send you some portraits and other drawings that you can use or not as you like, gratis. (Or, as was said on Deadwood: “Free fucking gratis.”) I will try to do the best work that I can.

In either event, please put me on one of your request lists for either your photocopy lists or those you ask those who are on your list to mail out to.

Thanks for the incredible work you have done on this.

    • Scott says:

I appreciate it, Danny. I’m about 99% sure I’m using Russ again for everything, as he’s my favorite artist from the early-ish days, I’ve had good luck with him in the past, and I’d like to have a unified look. If you’re fine with the notion that I’m probably just using one artist, I’d obviously be happy to get anything you send, although it might be repurposed for a later project. I will be happy to add you to the list in any event.

      • Danny Cline says:

Scott, I will be happy either way. Also, as Russ is a pretty incredible artist, I of course would expect if you could use him for everything that you would – that map is very impressive. I won’t knock myself out trying to do every piece then, and if you can use any of what I do for anything later, feel free to do so or ask for more should you need it.

Thanks for adding me to the list and for your response!

        Danny

A dwarf that ALWAYS HAS CANDY

  9. Jonas says:

Well, I would like to see some illustrations of devils of Dwarf-Land like the anti-cherubic Imps.

My preference in order would be:

    1. No art
    2. You & your gf do some simple pencil sketches or silhouettes
    3. Russ Nicholson, because he did the map
    4. Your gf’s sister’s child’s kindergarten class to do some drawings
    5. Ink up your hamster’s feet and let him run around on the book
    ….
    879. Typical OSR *artist* lol
    880. Poag
    881. Zak
    882. The guy who illustrated Runequest Elder Secrets supplement
